Hi! I have a friend who has a problem. He has been unable to use msn messenger with his JAWS program. We are wondering if anyone has any tips on how to work this so he can get back to chatting. He is running JAWS 5.0 on Windows 98 and has MSN messenger 7.0 downloaded to his computer. Any help we can get would be appreciated!
well to be honest I'd get rid of windows 98 first off and upgrade to windows xp. With regard to jaws 5 and msn 7 I'm told the two do not work well, but if your friend can upgrade his windows he can use windows messenger which is equally as effective and works fine with jfw.
If your friend can't update to Windows XP, they could either use miranda im or pixamsn. Miranda has more features available but can be a bit tricky to set up, pixamsn is a very basic client supporting the MSN protocol and is quite accessible with JAWS. Don't have the download links for those programs, but you shouldn't have problems finding them with google.
MSN Messenger 7 doesn't speak very well with jaws but the 6.2 version is very accesible. Maybe your friend can uninstall version 7 and after that download and install version 6.2.
I too had issues with MSN 7.0 and JFW 5.0, but since I've got Windows XP I just used windows messenger. When I tried to remove MSN 7.0 and go back to 6.2 I was prompted by Microsoft to upgrade back to 7.0. Your friend, IMO, would be better off either upgrading to Windows XP or using a cliant like someone else already suggested.
HTH.
Oh yeah!!! If you've not already done so posting your question about MSN to the geeks are us board may get you a lot of help too.
What are the problems people are having? I'm farely new to jaws, so maybe the things that I thought were normal, lol, aren't? I'm using windows xp, jfw demo 6 I believe, and the latest version of msn messenger. For the most part, things seem fine. I wish when I was out of my message windows, that it would tell me who wants attention along with the little noise. Am I missing anything? Where are the problems? smiles
